Physical Requirements

Students must be of good health and possess a reasonable level of fitness


You will be assessed both by theory and practical assessments. 

You have two (2) options to consider for the practical assessments.

1. Practical Assessment Option A: Face to face   

You can choose to be assessed in the workplace by a qualified assessor. The Assessor must possess Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment (TAE 40110) and aqua fitness qualificationsA copy of the assessors qualification must be included in your final practical submission.


2. Practical Assessment Option B: Video Assessment:

You may elect to have your practical assessment by video. This must then be sent to Active Training either via Youtube or on a USB.

Incorporating the Units of Competence:

  • SISFFIT008  Instruct Water Based Activites
  • SISFFIT022  Instruct Aquatic Sessions for Specific Population Groups

Upon successful completion, the student will receive a Statement of Attainment certificate.

These units are recommended for those who currently hold a Certificate III in Fitness wishing to instruct Aqua Fitness

Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Develop water-based session plans
  • Determine appropriate phases, exercises or choreography to meet group needs
  • Develop and document program plans that include key instructional information
  • Determine type of aquatic training methods and equipment required to achieve client goals
  • Develop customised training sessions to meet the needs of clients
  • Provide clear instructions using effective communication and instructional principles
  • Evaluate water-based sessions

Whilst these units provide students with basic competencies to deliver aqua fitness classes, we recommend that students undertake either the Aqua Fitness Instructor Certificate or Certificate III in Fitness (Aqua Fitness Instructor Elective Units)
