Incorporating the Unit of Competence:

  • SISCAQU020 Perform Water Rescues

This course provides the student with the skills and knowledge required to perform basic water rescues in indoor or outdoor aquatic venues. Includes both theory and practical components. Upon successful completion, the student will receive a Statement of Attainment certificate.

Topics include:

  • Industry and organisational requirements
  • Non-swimming rescues
  • Swimming rescues
  • Characteristics of a person in difficulty
  • Factors contributing to minor emergencies requiring rescue
  • First Aid
  • Responding to minor aquatic emergencies
  • Utilising people involved
  • Utilising rescue equipment
  • Putting the rescue plan into action

Students will have 3 months in which to complete all aspects of the course - Theory and Practical. 3 month extensions (maximum of 3) are available for a set fee.

Course Accreditation
The course is nationally recognised and meets all AQTF requirements. Students can complete the course at 16 years of age.
Physical Requirements

Basic swimming skills.

Delivery Mode

Online theory using our Learning Management System (LMS).

Video assessment evidence will be required.

Assessment

Assessment Task 1 – Questions and Answers (a student resource is available to assist learners with the questions).

Assessment Task 2 – Video Assessments – students must video and upload footage of themselves demonstrating the various rescue techniques (video resources are available to demonstrate the techniques that are required).
