Swimmers with a Disability - Extension

This course provides the candidate with the competence required to identify the needs of participants with disability, assist them to safely enter and exit the water and provide support during aquatic activities suited to participant needs and preferences. Support can be provided to individuals or groups of people with disability.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment certificate.

Students will have 3 months in which to complete all aspects of the course - theory and practical.
3 month extensions (maximum of 3) are available for a set fee.
Students must obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI) prior to enrolling in this course. Please visit https://www.usi.gov.au/ for more information.

On successful completion of the Swimming Instructor Participants with a Disability course, the student will automatically receive a further 3-year extension to their Active Training Swimming and Water Safety Instructor qualification

Practical teaching in an operating Swim School.

Assessment will comprise of:
Assessment Task 1 – Questions and Answers (All students will need to purchase a copy of the e-book (link below) to assist them with their studies)
Assessment Task 2 - The student is required to effectively and competently provide support to two participants each with a different disability for two 30-minute sessions.
Each session will be 30 minutes total in length – for each session you must -
To satisfy the performance evidence requirements of this unit of competence, a qualified Supervisor (must have a current Swimming and Water Safety Instructor qualification and hold the unit of competence SISCAQU028 Assist participants with disability during aquatic activities) must observe you demonstrating the above tasks
Assessment Task 3 – the student is required to complete 3 videos for this assessment task.
Video 1
You must conduct a 5–10-minute meeting and seek information on your participants needs demonstrating positive communication techniques (a carer may also be present during this meeting). Based on the information gathered, you must complete and upload the provided pre-teaching meeting form.
Video 2
You must conduct a 15 minute in-water aquatic session where you must respond to your participants needs during the session and modify activities accordingly (a carer may also be present during this session). Your modifications must be clearly demonstrated in your video.
Within your 15-minute in-water video you must also correctly demonstrate the use of each of the following physical support techniques on at least one occasion. You must clearly verbally identify each support technique as you use it.
