Duration

Students will have 6 months in which to complete all aspects of the course - theory and practical.

Assessments

Assessment will comprise of:

Basic Water Rescue

Assessment Task 1 – Questions and Answers (a student resource is available to assist students with the questions.

Assessment Task 2 – Video Assessments - students must video and upload footage of themselves demonstrating the various rescue techniques (video resources are available to demonstrate the techniques that are required)

Instruct Water Familiarisation, Buoyancy and Mobility Skills.

Assessment Task 1 – Questions and Answers (a student resource is available to assist students with the questions).

Assessment Task 2 – Lesson Planning – the student is required to plan and document three lesson plans.

Assessment Task 3 – Practical teaching and reflections – the student is required to teach (under supervision) each of the three lesson plans that individually or cumulatively incorporate all the key requirements for each unit of competence. At the completion of each session, the student must complete the reflections component of this assessment task.

The student must also upload a signed Supervisor Checklist for the unit of competence at the completion of their practical teaching

All Supervisors must have a current Swimming and Water Safety Instructor AND Infant and Toddler certificate that they can produce as evidence.

Assessment Task 4 – Video Assessments

If the student’s Supervisor has a current Certificate 1V in Training and Assessment OR the Assessor Skill Set (TAESS00011) - See below for further details AND a current Swimming and Water Safety Instructor and Infant and Toddlers qualification, the student is not required to complete video assessments. The student MUST upload copies of their supervisor’s qualifications to the Learning Management System as evidence.

If the student’s Supervisor does not hold a current Certificate 1V in Training and Assessment OR the Assessor Skill Set (TAESS00011), the student must video and upload footage of themselves teaching one 30-minute class for Instruct Water Familiarisation, Buoyancy and Mobility Skills. This video must include all the key requirements of the unit of competence.

Promote Development of Infants and Toddlers in an Aquatic Environment 

Assessment Task 1 – Questions and Answers (a student resource is available to assist students with the questions.

Assessment Task 2 – Lesson Planning – the student is required to plan and document three lesson plans.

Assessment Task 5 - Student Feedback Form

The student must complete, scan and upload the completed feedback form to the Learning Management System.

This course is suitable for those wishing to instruct Infants and Toddlers in swimming and water safety. The course covers the following units of competence:

  • SISCAQU002 Perform Basic Water Rescues
  • SISCAQU008 Instruct Water Familiarisation, Buoyancy and Mobility Skills
  • SISCAQU011 Promote Development of Infant and Toddlers in an Aquatic Environment

A Statement of Attainment will be issued upon successful completion of all assessment tasks.
