Swimming Instructor - Infant and Toddlers

This course is suitable for those wishing to instruct Infants and Toddlers in swimming and water safety. The course covers the following units of competence:

  • SISCAQU020 Perform Water Rescues
  • SISCAQU024 Instruct Water Familiarisation, Buoyancy and Mobility Skills
  • SISCAQU027 Promote Development of Infant and Toddlers in an Aquatic Environment

A Statement of Attainment will be issued upon successful completion of all assessment tasks.

Duration

Students will have 6 months in which to complete all aspects of the course - theory and practical.

3 month extensions (maximum of 3) are available for a set fee.

Assessment

Assessment will comprise of:

Perform Water Rescues

Assessment Task 1 – Questions and Answers (a student resource is available to assist students with the questions).

Assessment Task 2 – Video Assessments - students must video and upload footage of themselves demonstrating the various rescue techniques (video resources are available to demonstrate the techniques that are required).

Promote Development of Infants and Toddlers in an Aquatic Environment and Instruct Water Familiarisation, Buoyancy and Mobility Skills.

Assessment Task 1 – Questions and Answers (a student resource is available to assist students with the questions).

Assessment Task 2 – Lesson Planning – the student is required to plan and document six lesson plans for each unit.

Assessment Task 3 – Practical teaching and reflections – the student is required to teach (under supervision) each of the six lesson plans that individually or cumulatively incorporate all the key requirements for each unit of competence. After each session, the student must complete the reflections component of this assessment task.

Assessment Task 4 – Video Assessments.

If the student’s supervisor has a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment OR the Assessor skill set (TAESS00011) AND a current Swimming and Water Safety Instructor - Infant and Toddlers qualification, the student is not required to complete a video assessment. The student MUST upload copies of their supervisor’s qualifications to the Learning Management System as evidence.

If the student’s supervisor does not hold a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment OR the Assessor skill set (TAESS00011), the student must video and upload footage of themselves teaching one 30-minute class. This video must include all the key requirements of the unit of competence.

**The AUSTSWIM Assessors licence does not meet the requirements/standards required to assess our nationally recognized course. Your Assessor must meet the criteria above otherwise video evidence is necessary.
